First Pass Yield (FPY) refers to the percentage of products that are manufactured correctly the first time, without needing rework, repairs, or adjustments. It specifically measures the efficiency of the process by showing how many items meet quality standards right from the start.
The formula for First Pass Yield is:
First Pass Yield (%) = (Good Parts Produced on First Attempt ÷ Total Parts Produced) × 100
- Good Parts Produced on First Attempt are products that pass inspection the first time.
- Total Parts Produced includes all products made during the process, whether good or defective.
FPY is a key component of Quality in OEE, as it directly reflects how well the process is functioning without producing defects that need to be fixed. High First Pass Yield means less rework and lower costs, leading to improved efficiency.
